Orange above. If you prefer to wake up with a happy jolt try a bold orange-gold color on the ceiling. An orange ceiling will intensify the blue of the skies outside as blue and orange are complementary colors. With such a strong color on the ceiling I'd go with light and warm neutrals for the walls and trim.
Trunk or suitcases. To add a vintage look to your bedroom go for those old and weathered suitcases you've had your eye on in the thrift store. Stack them together and place a sturdy tray on top for a fun DIY night table. Opt for a variety of colors to create a design feature in the room or get crafty and paint your suitcases the same color for a more Shabby Chic look as in this photo. Similarly pull that old trunk out of your attic. The large surface area can easily accommodate a lamp and other decorative items. Carry the vintage style of the trunk into the rest of the room by scattering around small accessories like old photo frames or an antique mirror. Tip: The storage space inside a trunk is a perfect place to stow extra blankets.
Boho glam. Pick a classic decorator favorite (like the upholstered bed with nailhead trim shown here) to build the room around then mix and match accessories at whim. Bamboo blinds and colorful printed bedding paired with a glass-top table and a fun framed print add up to a laid-back yet glamorous look.

Keep privacy in mind. It's always nice when you can leave the bedroom door open without forsaking all of your privacy. The small foyer in this example provides separation from the family room. I always try to avoid designing a layout in which you look directly into the bedroom from a more public space like a great room kitchen or family room.
Savor and relax. Imagine doing a few gentle stretches or yoga poses before bed lighting a scented candle and sipping some chamomile tea while you write in your journal. There are no to-do lists or pinging phones vying for your attention. You can simply be. Imagine how easy it would be to gradually unwind release the tension of your day and ease into a restful deep restorative sleep in a space free of clutter and distractions. Once the busyness of the day is done make time to simply relax in your newly cleared space. Take action: Once your bedroom is clean and clutter-free pick and choose from the list below to enhance your space and get a better night's sleep: Use a linen spray or essential-oil diffuser with a relaxing scent like lavender or rose keep a small vase of fresh flowers on your nightstand do a few gentle stretches or yoga poses to help release the tensions of the day take a warm bath with essential oils before bed sip a cup of herbal tea and write in your journal gradually dim the lights in your bedroom an hour before bed ending with just a single candle before blowing it out and going to sleep.
